One of the greatest ways to take care of your toddler is to make sure that you are taking care of yourself first.
It sounds cliche, but this is a reality that any new parent will be tested with over and over again.
This may be challenging for new parent especially when your toddler is looking to you to learn how to operate and survive in this world.
With such a large responsibility of making sure your toddler makes it into his/her adulthood, it is very easy to see how a parent can lose it from time to time.
The danger of "losing your cool" on a regular basis becomes damaging to the parent-child relationship when it is the only way a parent acts around their toddler.
One of the first ways to control your temper is to remember your toddler is attempting to manage his or her frustration and just because he or she is upset does not mean you have to cope for your toddler.
Secondly, if the situation becomes too much for you to handle you can take deep breaths, distract yourself, or simply remove yourself from where you toddler is for time to cool down.
Once you are calm and able to manage the fact that your toddler is still going to be moody, cranky, and upset and wait until he or she is completely calm also.
Lastly, make sure that you share frustrations or anxieties you may have, should only with another adult.
Toddlers are dealing with enough of their own strange, new emotions and do not have the mental ability to handle your anxieties on top of their own.
