Easy Homemade Bird Feeders

3

Four Feeders You Can Make in Minutes

    • 1). Make a pinecone feeder. Get a large pinecone from your yard and tie a string or fine wire with a large loop to the top of it. Coat the pinecone in honey or peanut butter and roll it in a mix of cracked corn and white millet. You can hang your pinecone feeder from any accessible branch in your yard.

    • 2). Make an apple feeder. Cut deep ridges around an apple and coat it in honey or peanut butter. Roll the apple in birdseed and put it in the bottom of a plastic grocery net (the kind fruits and vegetables come in). Now tie a large loop to the top of the plastic net with some string or yarn and hang it in your yard.

    • 3). Make a bread slice feeder. Cut an attractive shape from a slice of bread with a cookie cutter. Poke a hole in the middle of this shape with your finger and thread a piece of string or yarn through the hole. Tie the ends together to make a big loop and let your bread sit for a few days until it's hard. Spread honey or peanut butter on one side of the bread and cover this side with birdseed. Now do the same to the other side of the bread and hang it outside in your yard.

    • 4). Make a gallon jug feeder. Use an ice pick to punch a hole through the top of an empty gallon jug and thread some string or wire through it. Tie the ends together to form a large loop and punch small holes in the bottom of your jug to let water drain out. About two inches up from the bottom of your jug cut a 3-inch hole in the middle of all four sides with a utility knife. Use your ice pick to poke holes under the 3-inch holes and push dowels or sticks into them as perches. Now fill the bottom 2 inches of your jug with seeds and hang it in your yard.
