New Brunswick Fine Dining
What's on the menu at Rossmount Inn in New Brunswick? From day to day the dishes may vary, but the quality of ingredients and kitchen creativity do not.
On a recent visit to the Rossmount Inn, we were first greeted outside by a friendly black dog. Passing inspection, we walked the stairs up to the entrance and found ourselves in an antiques-filled lobby with gleaming wooden millwork carved by masters in another century.
It was a hot summer night, and fans swirled overhead in the dining room. Thanks to the engaging menu, we focused more on the food than the sultry air. A variety of soups, appetizers, and entrees were available. Below is what we sampled.
The Menu
SOUP: Coconut lobster bisque with white truffle oil, a caramelized scallop, and fresh chives
ENTREE: Roasted Atlantic salmon fillet with garlic-basil crust, chive potato purée, lemon butter, and black olive extra virgin olive oil
DESSERT: Swiss chocolate truffle cake with strawberry coulis
The Verdict
Fine dining simply doesn't get any better than this. Lobster bisque, always a favorite, was elevated to sublime at Rossmount Inn with the subtle addition of coconut and hint of truffle oil. And the single plump, white, glistening scallop floating in the center of the bisque was a worthy representative of Maritime seafood.
As healthy as salmon is to eat, when cooked it often tastes bland. So coating a salmon fillet with a mixture of garlic and basil is an inspired idea.
Every bite was as succulent and flavorful as the last.
For dessert, the chocolate cake was rich, dense, moist, delicious.
Our only regret was that we didn't have a key to an upstairs bedroom (overnights are quite affordable) to repair to after this splendid meal.
