How to Paint With Dazzle

1
    • 1). Apply a base coat of primer to improve adhesion on the object you are painting.

    • 2). Apply one or two coats of white paint to the entire surface.

    • 3). Wait for the paint to dry. One to two days is suggested for walls and furniture; one day for paper surfaces.

    • 4). Divide the area you are painting into interconnected shapes that have straight edges, such as triangles, squares, and rectangles. Alter the size and orientation of the shapes so that there is no discernible pattern. Use a pencil and ruler to define the borders; these lines should only be visible up close as they are your guide for painting.

    • 5). Block the perimeter of five shapes that do not touch using painter's tape.

    • 6). Place a strip of tape within the boundaries of one shape at an angle so that it dissects the shape but does not run into other nearby shapes. Continue placing strips parallel to the first, varying the distance between the strips. Overlap strips to create a wider line.

    • 7). Progress to the rest of the bordered shapes and repeat the process using a different angle. For example, if the first shape had horizontal stripes, use a stripe at a 45 degree angle for the next.

    • 8). Apply black paint to the white space between the tape being careful to remain within the boundaries of the shape; these are the black stripes in the Razzle Dazzle design. Repeat for all five taped-off shapes.

    • 9). Allow paint to dry for one hour. Remove the tape for a crisp edge.

    • 10

Dry for one to three days.

    • 11

Choose five more unpainted, nonconsecutive shapes; it does not matter if they are next to shapes that are already painted.

    • 12

Repeat steps 5 through 10 until the second set of five shapes has been painted. Be sure to vary the angles of the tape so that no two shapes have the same stripe orientation.

    • 13

Select additional sets of shapes and repeat steps 5 through 10 until the entire surface is striped.

    • 14

Apply one or two coats of paint sealer, such as acrylic spray or clear varnish.
