How to Create an Absolute Reference in Excel 2007
- 1). Open or create a new spreadsheet in Excel 2007.
- 2). Compose a formula that includes one or more cell references. For the sake of example, type "=SUM(A1:A10)" in cell A11. Enter any numbers you want in cells A1 through A10 and you'll see their total in cell A11.
- 3). Change the cell references in the SUM formula by typing a dollar sign ("$") before each column and each row reference. In this example, your new formula reads "=SUM($A$1:$A$10)". Copy and paste the new formula anywhere else on the spreadsheet and the result will be unchanged.
