How to Make Your Sofa Stain-Repellent
- 1). Cover any items that you don't want to accidentally spray, such as hardwood floors or coffee tables. Use a tarp or drop cloth to protect your furnishings.
- 2). Shake the stain repellent spray can or bottle and hold it at arm's length. The nozzle should be 6 inches from the sofa.
- 3). Spray the sofa using a continuous, sweeping motion until the entire sofa is covered. Allow it to dry thoroughly. Apply a second thin coat if desired.
- 4). Reapply the application every six to 12 months or if you steam-clean the upholstery.
- 5). Clean up any spills right away by blotting with an absorbent towel. Stain repellents stop spills from quickly absorbing into the material, but the faster you act, the less likely you are to see a stain.
