How to Dispose of a Flat Panel LCD Monitor
- 1). Connect the LCD monitor to two or three computers to see if it is still usable, if not it can still be recycled. You want to avoid throwing away the monitor with regular garbage.
- 2). List the LCD screen on auction sites such as eBay and Craigslist. Even if the monitor does not work, there are people out there looking for broken monitors to fix or to use for parts.
- 3). Donate working equipment to schools, after-school activity centers, Goodwill donation centers or any other charity or non-profit organization. Some cities have donation centers at or near shopping centers. Call your local charity or church to ask if they accept LCD monitors.
- 4). Contact the manufacturer of the monitor. Some states have an Electronic Equipment Recycling and Reuse law, which requires an electronics manufacturer to establish a system for recycling electronic waste, produced by them. The manufacturer can give you instructions on how to dispose of your monitor properly.
- 5). Check with your sanitation department for electronics and computer disposal services.
- 6). Contact your local government agency in charge of waste disposal. They may provide you with information about the proper procedure for the disposal of the monitor.
