How to Replace or Repair a Kitchen Faucet
- 1). Turn off the water to the faucet by closing hot and cold water valves under the sink.
- 2). Remove the faucet handle by unscrewing the set screw near the handle base with an Allen wrench and sliding it off. Take off the cover around the body of the faucet by unscrewing it, and then remove the retainer nut with large pliers, or cartridge screws with a screwdriver, depending on which part your faucet uses.
- 3). Replace the cartridge with a new one, and replace all the gaskets and seals in the manifold, which is the part below the faucet.
- 4). Remove the faucet spout and replace the O-ring on the spout's base. Reassemble the faucet by replacing the spout, cartridge cover and handle.
- 1). Turn off the water by shutting both incoming water valves. Lift up the faucet handle to drain pipes.
- 2). Disconnect the hoses from the water pipes under the sink by turning the connectors to the left.
- 3). Loosen the connector underneath the sink by turning it left with a pipe wrench. This is the connector holding the faucet head to the base of the sink. If the handle is separate from the faucet spout, also loosen the connectors holding this part to the sink.
- 4). Remove the faucet body by lifting it out of the sink area. Also, remove the handle section if separate from the spout body.
- 5). Install the new faucet by sliding the connector hoses through the holes in the sink and connecting the faucet to the base by tightening the connector. Repeat this process for the separate handle area, if applicable. Attach the hoses to the water pipes by tightening their connectors by hand.
