How to Help Those in Need When You Have Little Money

10
Many people are struggling these days.
The economy has sent many people to unemployment lines or dipping into lifetime savings just to put food on the table.
It's hard sometimes to think about helping others when you are in need yourself.
Yet sometimes it is those very people who need help themselves who have the desire to help others.
If you've ever been hungry with no money to buy food, if you've ever worried how you would buy new shoes for your child or put gas in the car to get to work, then you can understand what it's like to have needs and not be able to fulfill them on your own.
Sometimes the smallest of gestures can make the biggest change in the lives of a person or family in need.
Here are some things you can do to help others even if you don't have money yourself: Volunteer your time- When you're low on money, time might be all you have to give.
You can volunteer with a local organization, offer to babysit for a busy single mom or give your services free to a non-profit or a struggling small business.
There are opportunities to volunteer all around you if you seek them.
Give away things you don't need or have outgrown- Often people in need do not have the extra money for clothing, shoes, household items and other things that many of us take for granted.
You can clean your house of clutter and also help the needy by giving away things you don't need or don't use.
You can give to a local shelter, Freecycle program, church program or give directly to those who you know need them.
Start an organization or program- Another way to help the needy when you don't have much yourself is to start a non-profit program or organization and seek the help of other volunteers.
When everyone bands together to pitch in, big things can happen.
Volunteer at public school- Local public schools are always looking for volunteers and many parents work so hard they just don't have the time.
Whether you have children of your own or not, you can apply as a volunteer (usually requires a background check) and help out at a local school.
You can help with activities such as chaperoning field trips, setting up school events and activities or even being a teacher's aide.
People need to look out for one another.
Sometimes it takes a needy person to really be aware of the needs of others.
You can use this sympathy to identify the needs of others and find ways that you can help, even if you have little money yourself.
