How to Make Cheap Wedding Bouquets & Arrangements
- 1). Choose flowers that are in season, according to Cheap Wedding Success. Ask your local florist which these will be at the time of your wedding. Flowers that are in season will be less expensive than exotics which require more labor to grow or have to be shipped from greater distances. You can also use some flowers from your own home garden. Flowers can even be purchased at a grocery store, although quality may be an issue.
- 2). Make hand-tied bouquets for the bride and bridesmaids. Remove excess foliage from the bottom halves of the stems, according to Saveoncrafts. Trim stems to about six to eight inches long, and wrap stems securely with waterproof tape. Then wrap decorative ribbon or lace over the waterproof tape. Use corsage pins to secure the ribbon or lace to the tape. Make a bow, and attach it to a wood pick by wrapping a chenille stem the same color as the ribbon several times around them both. Hide the chenille stem with extra folds of ribbon if desired. Place the pick containing the bow inside the ribbon or lace.
- 3). For table centerpieces, use large flower heads floating in a glass bowl according to Cheap Wedding Success. Take a large flower head such as a sunflower, and trim leaving about three inches of stem. Place the flower head on top of the water in a clear bowl for an elegant effect.
- 4). Make single flower centerpieces using larger blooms such as peonies or camellias. Trim the bottoms of the stems and place single flowers in vases containing water with a sprig or two of greenery such as ornamental grass, fern or baby's breath. Rent the vases from your florist or reception hall instead of buying them to save even more money. If you place the single blooms in larger vases, they can also be used as freestanding arrangements at the church and reception hall.
