Leblon neighborhood is named for a Frenchman, Le Blond, who once owned property here. It is an upscale area west of Ipanema and much quieter and family oriented. As crowded as the beach is, it's nothing compared to the crowds who frequent Ipanema and Copacabana.
Due to Dois Irmãos hill behind the beach which blocks out the setting sun, it gets darker earlier, adding to the peacefulness of the beach.

However, the boutiques and exclusive shops continue business as usual.
