How to File Chapter 7 in Georgia
- 1). Complete a court-ordered credit counseling course. This course must be approved by the court and completed six months before you can file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
- 2). Obtain a bankruptcy petition available at your local Clerk of the Court's office. This completed form must be sent to the nearest bankruptcy court, along with a statement of affairs and your filing fee. The former item will state how much debt you have acquired and how much income you have to spare. As of 2010, the fee for filing Chapter 7 in Georgia is $299.
- 3). Complete the court-ordered education course. The court will provide you with details about its location and time. After you finish the course, you will receive a certificate that you attended the course. This certificate must be given to the court.
