How to Draw Optimus
- 1). Sketch out an oval-shaped image somewhere near the middle of your paper to act as Optimus Prime's head guideline. Use light pencil strokes as you sketch each individual body panel, as you will be erasing and adding several sections throughout this activity.
- 2). Create the rectangular chest area of this cartoon machine, making sure that you include the angled shoulder blades and indented torso in this rough draft. Draw small rectangles to act as the upper and lower portions of Optimus Prime's arm, ensuring that they're positioned to reflect that of the picture you are using as a reference guide.
- 3). Sketch football-shaped images to represent the top half of Optimus Prime's legs as they are positioned from this particular angle. Create small circles to act as the pivoting joint of this machine, then draw the shielded panel to create the bottom halves of each of the legs. Draw square-like shapes on the very bottom to act as the rough drafts for the feet.
- 4). Draw a curved line just above the halfway point on Optimus Prime's head to designate the top portion of his helmet. Carefully create each of the straight lines to form the facial features, making sure that they reflect the image in the picture. Create the eyes using slender, triangular shapes.
- 5). Shape each of the upper-body panels so that they're more reflective of Optimus Prime's detailed robotic transformation. Sketch out jagged attachments to the lower portions of each of the arms, making sure that you include the lined interior features to create the three-dimensional appearance of these areas.
- 6). Work through the chest and torso area of Optimus Prime to better detail the mechanic appearance of this section. Use a ruler to create the square-like panels of this upper-body. Clean up the lines that create the shoulder blades, as these are more jagged in appearance than they are straight. Add small oval-like features to the upper chest area.
- 7). Create bent lines throughout the leg shields to further detail the mechanic appearance of Optimus Prime. Draw an oval shape on the inner portion of these lower leg sections. Carefully round out the square-like feet you initially drew, adding two rectangular extensions to each.
- 8). Compare your drawing of Optimus Prime with the picture you are using as a reference guide, checking for any large inconsistencies between the two. Carefully erase any sections you're unsatisfied with, then fix these areas with light pencil strokes.
- 9). Trace all of the intended pencil lines with an ink pen to create a clean and bold look in your drawing. Carefully move the pen over each of these sections, making sure that you do not accidentally trace over any of the guidelines or smear the ink. Let the ink dry, then completely erase any remaining visible pencil marks.
