How to Build a Waterfall

1
    • 1). Select the location for the waterfall. An area with an existing slope is ideal.

    • 2). Decide how big you would like the waterfall to be. Remember to keep it in the proper scale for your landscape.

    • 3). Mark the dimensions on the ground with rope, rocks, or spray paint to use as a guide for digging.

    • 4). Dig the hole for the pond following the guide dimensions. Make the hole about two or three feet deep.

    • 5). Notch out a step alongside the pond hole. Make it about one foot deep. Be sure to make it wide enough to fit a piece of flagstone or other rock(s) you intend to use.

    • 6). Build up a stack of colorful river rocks above and around the step to create the next level. Play around with the placement until it suits your taste.

    • 7). LIne the pond hole with a black plastic liner.

    • 8). Place the pump in the pond.

    • 9). Attach the black rubber landscape hose to the pump and run it up strategically through the rocks to conceal it. Be sure the hose is pointed toward the pond so the water will run down the rocks and pool into the pond.

    • 10

Turn on the pump, and watch your waterfall cascade over the rocks. Many newer pumps run on batteries or solar power, so you won't even need an outlet.
