Online Ordination

• 1). Investigate the organizations that offer online ordination. Several will require little more than payment of a fee and completion of some paperwork.
  
  
• 2). Read the information that outlines the organization's beliefs. Make sure your beliefs are in line with the denomination.
  
  
• 3). Fill out the paperwork required by the organization, and attach a check for the proper amount. Attach any other information the group might require.
  
  
• 4). Mail your completed packet to the organization, and wait to receive your ordination certificate in the mail.
  
  

Nondenominational Ordination

• 1). Investigate the steps to achieve ordination. You might want to consult with the pastor or someone in church leadership.
  
  
• 2). Declare your desire to be ordained to the person who determines suitable candidates. Explain why you desire ordination, and request an interview to determine your suitability for the program.
  
  
• 3). Complete the interview process. If you are approved, complete the necessary paperwork to begin ordination.
  
  
• 4). Complete any educational requirement, such as pastoral skills, Bible study, preaching or completion of Bible college.
  
  
• 5). Complete any required mentoring work with a supervising pastor or other training requirements, and then participate in the ordination ceremony.
  
  

Denominational Ordination

• 1). Complete membership requirements with that denomination. Verify that you agree with the denomination's statement of faith and major beliefs. Be prepared to explain those beliefs if asked.
  
  
• 2). Speak with a local pastor in that denomination about your desire to enter the ministry and be ordained. Discuss the requirements the denomination has for ministerial applicants. Ask for the pastor's support to move to the next step.
  
  
• 3). Complete an interview with the area denominational leadership. Express your desire to enter the ministry and your current involvement in the church. You might be asked to document your religious experience and history. submit to a background check and a psychological interview.
  
  
• 4). Enroll in seminary, and follow the necessary course of study required by your denomination. Serve as a student pastor or other learning program in the church, if required. This process will help you learn how to work as a minister before you finish your formal education.
  
  
• 5). Finish your degree and graduation, and then apply for ordination. The denomination will verify your experience and education before your formal ordination.
