How to Rebuild a Couch Cushion
- 1). Measure and record the height, width and depth of the couch cushion covers.
- 2). Add 1 inch to each dimension and cut the upholstery foam to these specifications. The extra inch will prevent sagging in the couch cushion. If you purchase your upholstery foam from an upholstery shop, they can cut it to your specifications, or you can cut it using a long knife with a serrated edge.
- 3). Cut two pieces of Dacron the shape and size of the top and bottom of the couch cushion. Cut another piece of Dacron that will cover the top, front and bottom of the couch cushion.
- 4). Spray the top of the couch cushion with spray adhesive and glue on a piece of Dacron. Glue the other small piece of Dacron to the bottom of the cushion.
- 5). Spray the top and front of the cushion with adhesive and glue on the large piece of Dacron, lining up the edge of the Dacron with the back of the cushion. Turn the cushion over and glue down the rest of the Dacron on the bottom of the couch cushion. These layers of Dacron smooth out the edges of the foam so the couch cushion will look smooth and even.
- 6). Wash or spot clean couch cushion covers as necessary. Insert the new couch cushion into your cover. This may require help, because the cushion cover should be tight over the new cushion. You can fold the cushion if necessary to get it into the cover and unfold it once it is inserted.
