How to Move On The Cheap
- 1). Take inventory of your belongings. Compare the living space available between the new and old residences.
- 2). Have a yard sale for items you no longer want to keep to offset the costs associated with moving and to reduce the amount of items that need to be moved.
- 3). Travel to area grocery and retail stores. Ask the employees for any boxes available that may otherwise be discarded by the store. Using empty product boxes from area stores can save you a great deal of money.
- 4). Contact friends, family, church members and neighbors willing to help with the move. Offer yard sale items that did not sell or entice the volunteers with a special meal after the move. Offer reimbursement to those willing to lend a truck, van or other large vehicle for the move.
- 5). Plan the move at a time and day agreeable to the volunteers.
- 6). Pack the vehicles with your belongings. Make smart use of each vehicle's cargo capacity to reduce fuel consumption and the number of trips needed.
