Try Casting for Commercials

4
The first step in successfully casting for commercials is to first understand how commercials have a place in television lore as some of the most memorable moments in the annals of TV.
How did the commercial come into being? Well, the first thing that the early TV networks learned, like radio and newsprint before them, was that selling a "free medium" over the airwaves was fine and good, however the networks had to make money in order to operate, like any going concern.
The best way to get revenue was to sell advertising space during there shows.
The more successful the programming, the more they could charge per minute for advertising.
Initially, these spots were very rudimentary, usually regarding soap or cars, using nondescript actors (barely qualifying as actors), and poorly written scripts.
The main point was to put the product in front of the consumer, the TV watcher.
As the television industry evolved, so did the sophistication of the TV commercial.
The networks started to contract well known actors, like Ronald Reagan (remember him?), to promote the product (twenty mule team).
The dialogue began to improve as did the production value, until now the annual American Football Super Bowl, garners as much attention for its commercials as it does for the actual sporting event.
The commercial industry now even has its own awards given out for the best production.
Now, there are casting opportunities in and among themselves for commercial advertising.
You can now concentrate on, and even build a career solely working in commercials.
Many a career of many a famous actor started in commercials.
People talk of radio and newspaper media as dead or non existent.
That is as far from the truth as possible! There are many actors that make a living doing voice for radio.
Most of it is on the local level, but still one can be very successful in this arena.
The fun part is that you can change your voice or act as crazy as you want to (within script guidelines), and the general population will not even know who you are.
So, you get the best of both worlds, high pay and relative anonymity.
In pursuit of fame, you can parlay your industry presence into performing in front of the camera for charities or other organizations, and your face will be associated with your voice.
In short, there are plenty of opportunities in your town to become a commercial actor or voice talent.
