Ola is an exciting step forward in vibrator design and manufacturing, and for vibrator lovers it offers a genuinely unique experience of play. At first glance or feel, Ola is not dissimilar from models currently available from other well-designed, silicone vibrator companies (see: Jimmyjane, Fun Factory, LELO). But it's when you touch Ola, and let Ola touch you while you touch Ola, that the differences emerge.


The speed and pulse of the vibration Ola delivers is controlled by the hand that holds the toy. Squeeze harder on Ola's base and Ola reeves up. Deliver a series of gentle taps to the handle and Ola responds with a string of soft pulses. Once you've found what you want Ola has an intuitive memory that lets you program a "loop," which then delivers the intensity and pattern of vibration you want. It's not ideal for every kind of play, but Minna has launched with a vibrator that delvers on quality, fun and thoughtfulness. A promising start for a new company!

Minna Ola Inside and Out

Ola is a firm, not flexible, wand style vibrator. It has a hard plastic body with a velvety silicone exterior.

It is 8" long and 1 1/2" at the widest point. At one end is a gentle curve, at the other is a more round but blunted edge, and on the underside is the soft control pad that can be squeezed to adjust the vibration.

Ola has a rechargeable motor and comes with an adapter for charing (100 - 240v, 50-60hz).

It also arrives fully charged.

Once the charge is worn down it takes about three hours to charge, and a full charge provides about 4.5 hours of use (this fluctuates depending on the intensity of vibration you are choosing).

Ola comes with a magnetic recharger, a drawstring toy bag for storage, instructions, and an ambiguously cute sticker.

Pros and Cons

Pros

• Well constructed, fully waterproof, silicone vibrator is durable and easy to clean.
• A powerful motor that is fully customizable, making it good for people who like mild to intense vibration.
• Completely unique user interface allows you to control the vibration by squeezing the soft control pad at one end of the toy.
• The shape is ideal for external stimulation or penetration, and good for g-spot and non g-spot stimulation.

Cons

• It's a pricey product, currently retailing for around $165, and thus out of reach for many.
• The toy does not come with any pre-programmed settings, which means in order to feel a constant vibration of any strength or style you need to use the "loop" function. When you use it without the loop, as soon as you let go of the toy, the vibration stops. The loop function is easy, but this extra step makes Ola perhaps not the greatest choice for spontaneous sex play.

Tips on Using Minna Ola

The most important feature of Ola is the soft control pad. When you press down on it, it feels a little like one of those bags of air that companies use to fill the empty space in boxes when shipping things to you. It's more responsive than memory foam, but the silicone exterior makes it feel plush, like something you want to squeeze.

It is remarkably sensitive to pressure. As you squeeze down the motor begins to whir (relatively quietly, I might add) and the harder you squeeze, the faster the motor goes. As you reduce pressure, the vibration intensity reduces. When you let go, the vibration stops.

Ola has only two buttons. One is to turn the toy on and off. When you turn it on Ola pulses one, two or three times to indicate the battery level, letting you know if it's time to recharge.

The second button is for creating a "loop," which is pattern of vibration that you create and that Ola stores and plays back. Press the button once and then control the toy with your touch, either pulsing, escalating or simply holding it at a steady vibration. When you let go, Ola immediately plays back your loop, and the vibrator runs the patter over and over without you touching the control. To create a new pattern all you do is squeeze the soft spot and start again.

You can also lock a pattern in, which means that touching the soft control pad won't turn off the toy. This allows you to use the Ola like any other vibrator, only you get to pick the exact setting you want.

If you put a condom on it, you use the soft control pad end for penetration and this provides a unique feel as it is both firm and soft, quite different from the other end, and from the density and texture of most other silicone vibrators.

Care and Cleaning

Even though Ola can be immersed it should not be cleaned in the dishwasher or submerged in boiling water.

Use water and mild soap for cleaning.

If you plan on flying with your vibrator there are two things to note. First, the pressure sensitive control pad can be affected by changing altitudes, Ola's instructions show you how to rejuvenate Ola after a flight.

Second, Ola does not seem to have a way of locking it for travel. The design of the on button makes it very unlikely that it would turn on by accident (you need to apply significant pressure) but if you are taking Ola on a plane, I would recommend putting it in your carry on.

Don't use Ola while it is charging.

Since Ola is silicone, stick with a non silicone sex toy lubricant.

Safety Precautions with Ola

Ola is a well-designed vibrator made with a silicone exterior that makes it a good choice for people who are worried about reacting to sex toy materials, and who want a toy that is easy to clean and is non-porous. There are no major safety issues with Ola.
Ola may be used for external stimulation or vaginal penetration. It is not designed for anal penetration, and while it probably could be used with a condom and the right safety precautions, it can't be recommended as a toy that is perfectly safe to use for anal penetration.
