Work Related Stress Contributing to Unfiled Tax Returns

13
More and more, we are finding good, every day working people, who have not filed their taxes due to constant work related stress, over long periods of time.
Usually, taxpayers, do everything in their power to maintain a positive life for themselves and their family.
They go to work and they pay their taxes.
They are embarrassed, that they have fallen behind on filing their taxes, and usually, won't share information about their tax problem.
Their job performance is great, they are rising stars, on the job.
This particular tax payer, helps everyone in the work place, and is often a supervisor or high level executive with massive amounts of responsibilities.
At the end of the week, they have very little energy left for their own lives.
The taxpayer I am describing, usually, can stay focused on multi-million dollar deals for their Employer, yet, can't seem to stay focused on their personal finances.
Some, use Federal Withholding, to over pay the IRS, in hopes that when they do file, they won't owe.
If you fit the above profile, know, that you are not alone.
If you have not filed taxes for four, five, or six years, and have not been able to, schedule the time, to file your taxes, you may want to make an appointment with your doctor.
Explain, to your physician, your ability to stay focused at work, but, not, on your personal finances.
Ask for help.
(More than likely, your job, has blocked your personal energy flow, and there may not be a tangible reason, for your inability to focus on taxes) The second thing to do, is, document your doctor's visit.
(Documentation can be used to ask the IRS to reduce or eliminate penalties, due to illness or stress) The third thing, is to develop a trust, for a third party service, such as an online tax service, or your local CPA, to help you complete your taxes.
If you have misplaced your W2s, or don't remember, what the mortgage payments were, or how much interest you earned, or what stock, transactions occurred in a particular year, not to worry, the IRS knows.
An experienced tax professional can obtain this information for you.
If you think you may owe, be prepared to cut back on your monthly expenses, in order to comply with an IRS monthly Installment Agreement.
