How to Draw Caricature Faces

25
    • 1). Look at your subject's face. Determine the basic outline, whether it's square and boxy or round and plump. Find certain elements of your subject's face: prominent cheekbones, a high brow, long chin, inset eyes, large ears. Draw the basic shape of the head, using a large portion of the paper, as caricatures feature a disproportionate head compared to the body size.

    • 2). Add prominent features. Use softer, lighter lines than you did when you drew the darker outline. For soft lines, simply don't press as hard on the paper. Use thinner lines to create wrinkles or indents in the face, which add visual interest by varying the lines.

    • 3). Draw elements of the face, keeping the eyes larger than other facial features. Add the eyebrows, lashes, facial hair, based on the subject's actual hair. Use several thin lines to indicate facial hair, while hair on the scalp should be an overall outline of the subject's hair.

    • 4). Draw in the mouth. Remember to give the caricature an expressive face. Erase errant lines you may have made by mistake, then use black ink to trace the lines you drew. This will make your caricature art stand out on the page.
