Logitech z-5500 Review
First off let's get this out of the way, this thing has 505 watts of power. That is an insane amount of power for an in house system, especially for such a cheap price. We were very surprised when we saw this, and very pleased as well. Logitech is a very well known household name and it's brand has never failed us. It focuses around computer based products which are typically smaller than this powerhouse but it seems they've stepped it up a notch to compete with the higher end companies that produce high powered systems for your computer. We're pleased to see they've done this and were quite curious to see how the product turned out.
Let's list off a few features of the system. It comes with a full 5.1 surround sound system. It has 2 left speakers, 2 right side speakers, and a center speaker to mount above the computer or wherever you find convenient, anywhere in the center. The side speakers are referred to as satellites because of their ability to twist on their mount so that they may be set on a flat desktop surface like a normal speaker, or if you twist the speaker around it moves the mount out of the way to allow it to make room to be wall mounted. We found this to be a nice touch, anything that allows multipurpose use without hassle is always a plus, go Logitech! Okay, this thing has a 10 inch subwoofer. That's pretty dang big. This thing really pumps out the bass without any distortion. It's surprising how much sound really comes out of this thing. You will be pleasantly surprised by this. It also comes with a wireless remote which is a nice touch if your system is across the room or plugged into the television. One feature you don't typically see is the surround system control panel, which is a little speaker sized digital display with a dial that allows you to turn the system on/off, set inputs, and control the volume.
The system has a large range of jack inputs that allows up to 6 input systems to be hooked up individually, which can be toggled via the remote and the input settings. This is quite a great feature and gives you the functionality of a home theater receiver in a surround sound system. 2 for 1. The system outputs sound either through the jacks in the back or through a headphone receiver which is what you will use for the computer, but can also allow you to plug your iPod into to allow you switch from awesome television and gaming mode to party mode quite easily.
We couldn't really find anything wrong with this system. If we had got it for the original $399 maybe we would have been a bit stricter in our judgement but for the price of $179 its ridiculous the amount of power and features you're getting with this thing. If you want some SERIOUS sound at an affordable price you wont be let down by the Logitech z-5500
