How to Hand Sharpen Japanese Scissors
- 1). Rub machine oil on the rough surface of a whetstone. Soak the whetstone in the oil overnight if it has never been used before.
- 2). Align the rough surface of the whetstone against the angled edge of one of the scissor blades. It's best to start at the tip of the blade.
- 3). Slide the whetstone down the length of the blade from the tip to the pivot point. Repeat this until the blade feels sharp to the touch.
- 4). Repeat the sharpening process for the other scissor blade.
- 5). Test the scissors to ensure they are sharp enough for your needs. If necessary, sharpen the blades more.
