No matter how much we try to detach ourselves from what is going on in the environment, the fact remains that we would be affected by what is going to happen to it.
The effects of climate change are just a demonstration of that.
The changes in the climate were brought about by our carelessness and our disregard for the environment.
We must do our best now in helping to deal with the environmental problems that we have.
The best way to start with that is by becoming aware of the most serious environmental issues that we have today: · We have been hearing about global warming for decades now, but it was not until recently that we became fully aware of the seriousness of this concern.
Its effects, ranging from the melting of the ice caps in the Polar Regions and the changes in the weather pattern all over the world, is a concern for each every human being.
· Another major concern that we are facing right now is energy and its sources.
The world is running out of fossil fuel reserves and our civilization which is heavily dependent on it would be seriously affected if no replacement is discovered soon.
There are many candidates but none has been fully developed.
· The more modernized a country becomes, the more waste it produces and the problem of where to place the waste and how to dispose is becoming a more expensive and pressing problem with each passing year.
Not only that, there is also the problem of various hazardous waste that are being left out in the open which can potentially cause disaster.
· We might not think of water as a limited resource but it actually is and the problem of water is even more serious and critical in certain areas.
These are the areas that are far from sources of usable water.
Even the places which have plenty of water supplies are using it up at a great rate.
· Problems with food are affecting hundreds of millions of people each year in a serious manner.
As the world population continues to expand and the means of growing food becomes scarcer, this is bound to become a more serious concern in the future.
· Some countries still have plenty of surplus land, areas that still need to be settled, but most countries are starting to feel the serious effects of being overcrowded.
The problem of land use comes in to play.
It is difficult to determine as to which should be the priority when it comes to using land.
· As human settlements expand and use more land, animals are displaced from their natural habitat.
More and more species become endangered and become in danger of becoming extinct.
Once a species become extinct it would be gone forever.
These are just some of the major problems with the environment that we are facing today.
We should all be aware of these issues first, if we want to be able to resolve all of them.
