How to Paint Dirtbike Rims
- 1). Place the dirt bike on the motorcycle stand, which is a box-shaped unit that holds the bike upright. Remove the rims from the dirt bike using the ratchet. Set aside the axle, axle spacers, wheel spacers and washers in the order you removed them.
- 2). Clean the tires' rims of debris. Wet the sandpaper and rub it on the surface of the rims' metal to help the paint adhere.
- 3). Wipe the rims dry.
- 4). Remove the tires to ensure you do not get paint on them. Drain all of the air our of the tires and use a flat-head screwdriver to remove the tire. Place the screwdriver between the tire and the rim and pry the lip of the tire over the edge of the rim. After one side of the tire is removed, the other side can be pulled off by hand.
- 5). Place the masking tape over the sprocket of the back wheel. Wrap with masking tape around the front and back of the threads on the front and back rims.
- 6). Place the rims in an area that is appropriate for over-spraying and where they can remain for a few hours to dry.
- 7). Pour the paint inside the paint canister. Attach the canister to the gun.
- 8). Turn on the air compressor and practice spraying on a surface that can be discarded, such as a piece of cardboard. Ensure the spray is steady.
- 9). Stand 1 foot away from the rims and spray them with the spray gun in a back-and-forth motion. Use short bursts to ensure the paint will not run or drip. Paint both sides of the rims and finish both rims using the back-and-forth method. Allow the rims to dry.

Spray the rims a second time in the same method as the first spray, which will allow for any imperfections and missed areas to be covered. Allow the rims to dry before putting them back on the dirt bike.
