An Easy-to-Follow Air Horn Installation
- 1). Raise the hood on the car or truck and use a socket set to remove the negative battery cable.
- 2). Mount the air horn compressor on the fender well on the driver's side using the mounting hardware that comes with the air horn. Mounting kits may vary with different air horns, so follow the instructions included with your kit. If your instructions call for it, you may have to drill several holes in the fender well or firewall to mount the horn.
- 3). Locate the old horn and disconnect the electric wiring harness attached to it. Use wire strippers to remove the plastic wiring harness head and then to split and strip the positive and negative horn wires from the old horn.
- 4). Connect the positive or "hot" wire running from the old horn to the new air horn compressor. Wrap the wire around the mounting screw on the compressor and tighten the screw with a Phillips screwdriver.
- 5). Mount the air horn using the mounting hardware that comes with your kit. The horn should be mounted downwards and outside the engine compartment. Again follow the instructions that come with your kit for mounting the horn.
- 6). Slip the horn tubing from the compressor to the horns The tubing will mount on small nodes found on both the compressor and the horn. Hold the tubing in place with plastic ties.
