ATMEX: Mexico"s annual adventure travel trade show
What is ATMEX?:
ATMEX (Adventure Travel Mexico) is Mexico's annual adventure travel trade show. The goal of ATMEX is to showcase Mexico's great potential as an adventure and nature travel destination, and to connect qualified buyers from America and Europe with some of Mexico's best tour operators. National and international buyers, media, and exhibitors gather at ATMEX to network and learn from presenters about safety, standards, media and public relations, and sustainability.
The event is organized with the support of SECTUR Mexico, Mexico Tourism Promotion Council, and ATTA, the Adventure Travel Trade Association.
Where and When is ATMEX?:
The 2015 edition of ATMEX will be held for the second consecutive year in the state of Chiapas, but this year the host town will be Palenque, a town situated next to the Mayan ruins of Palenque. The event will take place from August 26 to 29, 2015.
ATMEX: An Environmentally Friendly Event:
ATMEX was designed as a "green" event, with efforts made to reduce its carbon footprint through a collaboration with the carbon footprint compensation program of the Grupo Ecológico Sierra Gorda. The Biosphere Reserve of the Sierra Gorda in Querétaro benefits from the collaboration.
Previous editions of ATMEX:
In 2014, ATMEX was held from August 26 to 29 in Chiapas state in San Cristobal de las Casas. Fam trips to other destinations took place in the week prior to the event. I went on an adventure trip with Maya Amazing Adventures in Yucatan state.
Some of the adventure experiences I learned about at ATMEX are featured here: 7 Unforgettable Adventures in Mexico.
The 2013 edition of ATMEX was also held in Veracruz, from August 14 to 17, 2013.
The first edition of ATMEX was held from September 5 to 9, 2012 at the WTC Veracruz in Boca del Rio, Veracruz. The theme for the inaugural edition was “Breaking New Trails”. I attended ATMEX 2012 as well as a three-day adventure fam trip prior to the trade fair, which included mountain biking, zip-lining and white water rafting. Here are 5 Things I Learned at ATMEX, and my experience with Mexico Verde Expeditions, our hosts during the fam trip.
