Why Are Conventions Important for Cancun Real Estate?
Cancun real estate has benefited from the investment, infrastructure, activities and services resulting from a very healthy tourism industry. This industry is currently being strengthened through a special branch of tourism - conventions - and this promises to bring more benefits for real estate buyers.
For 2011, the strength of convention tourism in Cancun is clear; as a result of the efforts from Cancun's Bureau for Conventions & Visitors and Cancun Center to promote the resort community as the best in Mexico for meetings and conventions, 9 national and international events have been planned for this year, involving over 17 thousand people. Most of these events are in the medicine industry, the largest being the XXII Congress of the World Allergy Organization, to be held from December 3 to 8, to be attended by 8000 participants.
Both these facts - the large number of conventions and the fact that many are in the field of medicine - mean one important benefit for Cancun real estate. Both bring large amounts of funds into the area. While the numbers of participants are smaller than other branches of tourism, visitors for conventions typically spend a significantly higher per-capita amount. Hotel stays are usually covered by the organization which the visitors represent, leaving them to spend a little more freely during their free time.
Increase in conventions, for this reason, means growing tourism-based business, which means the attraction of further investment into the Cancun area. Besides new hotels and resorts, this kind of investment brings restaurants, golf courses, marinas, new shopping centers ("shopping tourism" is also growing in Cancun due to its excellent variety of shopping options), out-door activities and much more; basically, all the things which make living in Cancun comfortable for real estate buyers as well.
Among the events held at the Cancun Center during the first two months of the year include the 2nd Mexican-Canadian Congress of Rheumatology, on the 11 to 15 February with 1,200 people, the Sixteenth National Congress of Neonatology and the Seventh National Congress of Neonatal Nursing, held from February 2 to 5, attended by 3,000 doctors. For the month of March the IEEE Wireless Communications Networking Conference is scheduled from March 28 to 30, with one thousand two hundred participants.
Besides the investment these events bring, it's also very obvious that these are organizations and participants with reasonable amount of funds available; they choose Cancun because of the quality the location offers!
The good news about Cancun real estate is that you can easily afford it, even on a modest budget.
