How to Make Teacup Pincushions
- 1). Fold the fabric in half twice, pin the layers together, cut an arc across the two nonfolded sides, unpin and you should have a 10-inch circle of fabric. If you want to attach decorative elements, do it now by sewing or gluing them to the center area of the fabric. Then, with double thread, sew a running stitch around the edge of the circle, 1/4 inch in from the raw edge; leave the needle and thread in for the next step.
- 2). Sandwich the steel wool piece between top layers of the batting and place the whole wad in the center of the wrong side of the fabric. While holding the batting in place, pick up the threaded needle and pull to gather the edges of the fabric. When the gathers are snug, stitch once or twice to hold the seam, and tie a sturdy knot. Cut the thread.
- 3). Apply a thick bead of hot glue inside the cup's rim 1 inch down and also 1/4 inch down from the top. Quickly place 3/4 of the pincushion section firmly into the teacup, giving a slight twist to spread the glue. Allow glue to set for an hour before using.
