How Does Financial Freedom Rank on Our Happiness Scale?
"Money makes the world go 'round"... what does that even mean to you, and me? Is having money as important a contributing factor to our happiness as, for instance, family? Love? Health?
Of course not... at least it isn't to most people. Companionship or good health can't be bought with money, although rich people usually have no problem attracting "hangers-on" who would scatter as soon as the money runs out. Money allows us to buy medicines and pay doctors and hospitals, but ultimately, it can't buy us health and longevity, right?
How does "financial freedom" benefit us, then?
While it's true that money can't buy everything, having enough to pay the bills, send the kids to college, travel, buy a boat if that's what you want, and retire at 40 or 50 instead of at 70, 80, or never is what I call financial freedom. The majority of people don't aim to be "filthy rich"... but achieving financial freedom to live life to it's fullest without the constant worry about money is their goal.
Is that goal achievable for you?
Absolutely. Achieving true financial freedom isn't, as a rule, possible by working the average 9-5 job - climbing out of that rut requires some courage, vision, and a burning desire to enjoy your life to it's fullest potential. Do you have what it takes?
Freedom means being responsible for your own successes (and failures). Working for yourself by starting, and continue building, your own business can be nerve-wracking, exhilarating, stressful, rewarding, full of confidence one day, full of doubt the next... but never boring. Life is an adventure, right? Live it the way it's meant to be lived... with your eyes wide open, always looking forward to the next experience!
Sitting still isn't going to get you anywhere, which is fine if where you are is where you want to be. Are you exactly where you want to be in life? Or are you wishing you could have the financial freedom and independence to fly to a tropical island on a whim? Visit Europe? Spend more time with your family and friends, doing what you love to do? Maybe your dream is early retirement?
A business of your own can make these dreams and wishes come true. Start off part time while still working your job, until you're seeing enough success in your business to quit and devote your time solely to growing your own business. Finding the right business is paramount to your success, of course, and researching your options and the many opportunities being offered should be the first step in your quest for financial freedom.
