This was the third consecutive year I've traveled to Barcelona, and I can only say that I'm looking forward to 2011. It's an amazing city which offers tourists pretty much anything they desire and if know what to focus your attention on, even a couple of days will be enough for a wonderful experience. There are though some things about accommodation you should be aware of before packing for Barcelona, and I'd be happy to share them with you right now.

First of all, the accommodation is very important, because finding a good hotel, in a nice area and at a decent price is not very easy, especially if you didn't plan this a couple of months before.

For a vibrant night live and a superb atmosphere during the day, I'd definitely go for the La Rambla, only a few meters away from Plaza Catalunya. You have virtually everything you need in this neighborhood, ranging from restaurants, bars, clubs to supermarkets, fancy malls and souvenir shops.

Getting here is extremely easy as well, as the Aerobus shuttle will take you here for only 5 Euros per ticket. Plaza Catalunya is the last station anyway so even if you're tired after the long flight and fall asleep there is no risk you'll miss it.

I would strongly advice you to make a small financial effort and stay at a hotel on La Rambla, rather then taking the risks and wander the narrow adjacent streets in search for a hostel. Sometimes we pay more for the things we receive for free or are very cheap, so don't jeopardize your vacation for a few dollars.

By staying in a three stars hotel directly on La Rambla you'll have a nice view over the entire boulevard, but the thick walls and quality windows will keep the noise outside allowing you to sleep. Safety is also of the essence, since the alcohol and weed available on the streets without many restrictions have a debatable effect on people, and staying at a hostel with 7 unknown people in a room certainly doesn't help.
