Danner Puv4000 UV Instructions
- 1). Choose the location for both the PUV4000 filter and the pump it will be connected to. The filter can be either in-ground or above ground, with your choice of soil, rocks or other landscaping materials providing cover, and the pump can be either above ground or submerged. Whether the drum of the filter is below the surface or above ground and covered, the area above the pressure clamp should remain uncovered.
- 2). Wrap a layer of plumber's Teflon tape around the three ports at the top of the PUV4000, and attach the Quick Connects to the two side ports and the Waste Port valve between them, twisting all three securely into place.
- 3). Attach the hose leading from the pump to the left side port (assuming you are facing the unit with the center Waste Port valve facing you) and attach the hose leading directly back to the pond or to an optional waterfall to the right side port. Attach the waste hose to the Waste Port valve and run the hose to a runoff area of your choice where the waste will not flow back into the pond. Attach hose clamps to the two side hoses to keep them securely in place.
- 4). Turn the Multiport valve on the top of the unit to the "Filter" position, and turn the Waste Port valve to the "Closed" position. Turn the unit on and test the connection of the hoses and valves. After the test, with the pump running, the Waste Port valve must be in the "Open" position before operating the Multiport valve.
- 5). Run the filter for three to four weeks to grow the helpful bacteria that will biologically filter the water. After this period, keep an eye on the pressure valve, and when it runs above the established baseline (roughly 2 to 3 psi), you will need to manually agitate, backwash and rinse the water.
- 6). Turn the Waste Port valve to "Open" to begin the agitation process, and turn the Multiport valve to "Backwash." Turn the agitator handle left to right and back roughly 10 to 20 times until the water coming out of the waste hose is nearly clear. If the handle takes effort to move, turn the Multiport valve to "Rinse" to clear any accumulated debris, and then return it to "Backwash" to continue the process. The process is complete when the pressure valve returns to its baseline reading.
