How to Decorate a Baby Room for Twins
- 1). Install shelves on the back wall of the twins' nursery so you can easily store crib linens, scrapbooks for each of the babies, and toys. Additional shelves also give you more room for the babies' clothing if the nursery has a small closet.
- 2). Paint the accent wall in the nursery's theme colors, and devote half of the wall to each baby. For instance, if the room is for two twin girls, and you've chosen roses as the theme, use rose-shaped stencils to paint the left half of the wall with pink roses, and the other half with yellow blooms. For a gender-neutral room for boy and girl twins, create a black and white color scheme by adorning the top half of the wall with black and white stripes, and the bottom half with black and white polka dots. Purchase wooden cutouts of your babies' names to display on both halves of the wall.
- 3). Adorn the remaining nursery walls with pictures of your babies, along with photos of you and your partner during the pregnancy. Frame heartfelt sayings expressing your love for your babies, like "Every new born baby is God's opinion that the world should go on" (Anonymous). You can also hang wooden cutouts on the walls that match the decor scheme. For instance, if you've chosen a "two by two" animal theme, decorate the walls with images of "twin" lion cubs or monkeys.
- 4). Position the cribs to create maximum space. In a wide room, place both cribs next to each other to provide more space for furniture and accessories such as bean bags or oversized teddy bears. To create center space in the nursery, place each crib against a side wall to create an open play area for your little ones.
- 5). Purchase a toy box with a divider to house all the items your babies will play with as they develop. The box can also serve as a storage unit for your twins' onesies, booties and hats while they're still small. Paint the toy box to match the nursery's theme. For instance, if you're using pastels, paint your son's side of the toy box baby blue, and your daughter's side a soft pink. Paint each of the babies' initials on their sections of the toy box in yellow.
- 6). Place a rocking chair or comfortable yet attractive armchair in the most prominent corner of the nursery, in a shade that matches the decor scheme. Add a colorful throw pillow for a functional yet colorful place for you to sit comfortably when you feed or read to your babies.
- 7). Add an area rug and drapes to complete the nursery decor. For instance, zebra-print curtains are fitting for a nursery with a jungle theme, and will complement a monkey-shaped rug well. Or choose curtains in a bright, summery shade such as orange or yellow, and select area rugs shaped like the twins' first initials in the same shade.
