How to Stack Floral Foam for High Centerpieces
- 1). Cut blocks of floral foam with a sharp knife to fit tightly inside your centerpiece container. Cut enough pieces so the highest layer extends 1 to 2 inches above the container.
- 2). Cut a wedge in the top layer of foam to allow room for adding more water once the centerpiece is assembled.
- 3). Soak pieces of floral foam in a large bowl of fresh, clean water with floral preservative already added. Soak foam until it floats freely in the container, indicating that it is completely saturated with water.
- 4). Affix double-sided tape to the bottom of your centerpiece container.
- 5). Press the first layer of floral foam firmly onto the double-sided tape at the bottom of the container.
- 6). Wedge the second layer of foam firmly on top of the first layer without crushing the bottom layer. Pieces should fit tightly into your centerpiece container with as little room to move around as you can manage. Continue adding layers of floral foam until you only have room for one more layer.
- 7). Arrange the final layer of floral foam with the cut-out wedge on top and facing the back of the centerpiece if applicable so you can add water to the arrangement when necessary. The final piece should extend 1 to 2 inches above the top of your centerpiece container.
- 8). Insert floral or plant arrangement stems into the floral foam and decorate container as desired. Add water as necessary to keep floral foam saturated.
