How to Start a Used Car Business on eBay
- 1). Log into eBay motors on www.ebay.com and sign in to your account.
- 2). Compile the necessary information readily available for posting your online listing. This will include the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN #), the year, mileage, make, model. Other information might include number of cylinders, transmission, whether there is a warranty, and other features.
- 3). Include a history or inspection report if you have it available.
- 4). Visit eBay's "Selling Your Car" checklist for an itemized list of common car features to include in your listing.
- 5). Perform a search on eBay for similar vehicles to get a good idea of what your expected selling price should be. This will also help you see the success rate based on those that sold.
- 6). Take a picture of the vehicle, since the buyer might not get to see it in person before he buys it.
- 7). Show multiple angles, interiors, close-ups of dents and other damage in pictures. Also take photos of the engine, odometer and VIN to help ensure credibility and reliability as a buyer.
- 8). Consider which format to list your vehicle.
- 9). Use the "Online Auction", which will reward any bid at or above your starting price. This is most helpful when trying to sell the car as quickly as possible.
- 10
Use the "Reserve Price" option and set a reserve price if you have a car valued at high price and have more flexible time limits to sell the car. You can lower the reserve or remove this option and start again if it's not satisfactory. - 11
Use the "Buy It Now" option if you want to specify a fixed sale price. The car will only be sold to the buyer willing to accept the price without any negotiation. - 12
Use the "Fixed Price Format" to forgo the auction option, allowing the buyers to purchase the car without competition. - 13
Use the "Best Offer" option which will allow any buyer to make an offer and give you the option of accepting, rejecting or offering a counteroffer. - 14
Designate which currency you will like to sell your car in. Choose from Canadian or U.S. dollars. - 15
Describe your vehicle and be honest with the buyers with all the features and history. - 16
Determine how you want to be paid and specify this. - 17
Decide which countries you are willing to ship to. - 18
List any warranties and inspection reports that the car has. - 19
List the vehicle on eBay and await buyers. - 20
Check with the documentations required for buyers within Canada and the U.S. and whether duty fees are required.
