Rope Pulls

• For a more rustic look, or maybe a room with a sea-themed design, rope pulls are the perfect option for your drawers. Find a long, thick piece of rope--for a set of four drawers, about three feet of rope should do it--and cut each piece into 8-inch pieces. Using a skill saw, cut out a hole in the middle of each drawer a tiny bit bigger than the diameter of the rope. Once each hole is cut, tie off one end of each piece of rope and stick the other end of the rope through the hole. Then tie off the other end of the rope. The rope will not come out because each end is tied, and it will serve as the perfect drawer pull for your room.
  
  

Spoon Pulls

• A spoon pull is simple and one of the more unique ideas. To make, find a smaller dinner soup spoon that has quite a few curves--or bend the spoon to make it curve more. The curve will serve as the "handle" part of the pull. Drill a hole in both the middle of the spoon part of the utensil and the end of the handle (opposite ends of the spoon). Mount the spoon in the center of the drawer by screwing each end of the spoon into the wooden drawer (use small screws).
  
  

Aluminum Can Pulls

• Aluminum can pulls are great for recreation rooms with a lighthearted feel. They are very easy to assemble and will last for a while. To assemble a can pull, slice a soft drink can into strips long ways. Make sure each strip is a long rectangle (cut off any jagged edges or ridges). Curve each strip but make sure the ends are flat for mounting. To mount, center the strip and screw the ends into the drawer. Pull on the curved part of the strip to open the drawer. Make sure all edges are folded over to avoid cutting your hand.
  
  

Considerations

• The options for homemade drawer pulls are endless. Begin by looking around your house for items that you don't use very much that would work well as drawer pulls. For instance, the spoon pulls might be made from old silverware sets you don't use anymore. The key is to keep your eyes open.
  
  Another brainstorming option is to note the theme of the room where you need drawer pulls and make a list of all possible items that would work to coincide with that theme. Once your list is made, look around the house or at garage sales for the items and make your own drawer pulls.
