How to Remove Guitar String Pegs
- 1). Turn each of your guitar's tuning keys to loosen the tension of each guitar string before removing the string pegs. Attempting to remove a string peg while the string tension is tight may be dangerous and could damage your guitar.
- 2). Unwind each string from the tuning peg it is wrapped around once the tension of each string is loose enough to do so.
- 3). Set the guitar on its back so that the bridge pins are facing upward.
- 4). Place a small piece of soft cloth over the pin you wish to remove. This will protect the pin from being damaged by the harder surface of the pliers.
- 5). Gently clamp onto the top of a cloth-protected guitar string peg with a pair of pliers and pull directly up.
- 6). Pull the old string out of the hole where the guitar string peg was.
- 7). Repeat this process to remove each additional guitar string peg (See References 1).
