Camoflage Utility Uniforms and Physical Training Uniforms

• The utility uniform is used for field exercises and other work in the Marines. The coat, trousers and appropriate hat must be worn according to the occasion where the uniform is being worn. Physical training uniforms require an olive green tank top and trunks. Shirts with distinct unit markings may be included in the PT uniform, depending on what the commanding officer decides. During cold weather, an authorized green sweatshirt may be worn.
  
  

Service Uniforms

• Service uniforms are worn for specific functions like a court martial or visits to the White House or U.S. officials. Short-sleeved khaki shirts and pants may be worn for leave and liberty, but long sleeves must be worn for more official activities like parades or ceremonies. Crew neck uniforms or all-season uniforms may be prescribed by a commanding officer when uniformity is required for an event or according to the weather.
  
  

Blue and White Uniforms

• Blue-white uniforms and blue uniforms are worn for leave and liberty, and regulations for wear are similar. These are usually worn with rank medals and other insignia for formal or semi-formal occasions. Men wear white slacks and a blue overcoat while wearing the blue-white uniform, while women wear white skirts or slacks. If skirts are worn, a woman must wear skin-colored hose, black flats and plain gold or pearl earrings if desired. Women may also carry a black handbag. Blue uniforms consist of blue coats and blue trousers or skirts. Khaki shirts may also be worn with the blue uniform depending on the commanding officer's protocol.
  
  

Evening Wear

• Evening uniforms are worn for formal dinners, receptions or occasions involving branches of the government. Officers generally wear waistcoats in blue with scarlet cummerbunds or vests, depending on their rank. Enlisted men either wear the blue waistcoat or the blue uniform if they do not have formal clothing. Women wear short skirts if the occasion isn't very formal and a long skirt for more formal occasions. Officers also have the option of wearing a blue and red boat cloak.
