Care of Calphalon Pans
- 1). Wash your new Calphalon pan in warm water with a mild detergent before first use. Calphalon recommends using Dawn liquid dishwashing detergent. This initial wash will remove any packaging debris. Rinse and dry the pan thoroughly.
- 2). Use lower heat settings than usual for cooking. Calphalon pans are built with heavy-gauge aluminum to allow higher conductivity, so high heat is not necessary and could damage the pan. In general, Calphalon recommends using high heat only when boiling or reducing liquids.
- 3). Pre-heat pans over medium heat before adding cooking oils or butter. Also ensure that butter and oils are heated to the right temperature before adding foods. When butter begins to bubble, but not brown, it is ready for the addition of food because food surfaces sear immediately. Foods are less likely to stick to a heated pan, which will make the cookware easier to clean.
- 4). Use plastic or wooden utensils to stir foods when cooking, especially with non-stick pans. Metal utensils can scratch and damage cooking surfaces. Hand-held choppers or blenders should never be used in the pan.
- 5). Hand wash pans with a sponge, warm water and mild detergent after each use. Be sure that the pan has cooled completely before washing. Submerging a hot pan in water can cause the metal to warp. Although some Calphalon products are dishwasher-safe, hand washing is recommended.
