Update Your Tired Bathroom In A Weekend
Updating a tired, older looking bathroom does not need to be expensive nor time consuming. The small investment you make in time and materials are not only a good investment in your property, but will provide you, your family, and your guests with a spa-quality environment. Here are some super, inexpensive, easy-to-do updates that can be completed over a weekend.
Paint: A fresh coat of paint, in the same color, complementary color, or brand new color brightens and freshens up any room. Decide on the type of mood you are going for in your bathroom. Shades of red, blue, or yellow (primary colors) will create a vibrant vibe. Neutral colors such as tans, whites, beiges, and browns are traditional, timeless colors. You can use accessories, such as towels, art, shower curtains, etc. to add a pop of color. Want a cozy bathroom? Select from a pallet of deep red and gold. Popular spa colors are hues of blue, grey, and/or green. If you want to make a small bathroom look larger, paint the ceiling a darker compatible color. To making a large bathroom feel cozier, use a darker, softer color.
Vanity Update: Updating the bathroom vanity can be as simple as re-painting it to replacing it. If you have a wood vanity that you like, but you feel needs some refreshing, simply sand, prime, and paint! Painting your vanity a contrasting color (darker or lighter) than the walls will give the room depth. Want more room? Replace your big boxy vanity with a pedestal sink. Most hardware or home stores will have all the pieces for the sink including plumbing elements for under $100. Of course, you can select a completely new vanity. If you are not comfortable with doing plumbing work, ask a professional to install the new vanity for you.
Accessories: Painting and refreshing or installing your vanity will brighten up any bathroom. You can also replace vanity or other cabinet hardware; re-paint the bathroom door (on both sides or just on the inside of the bathroom); add a new shower curtain, shower curtain rod, and curtain hooks; replace towel racks and the toilet paper roll. Add artwork to complete your bathroom re-fresh. To make it even more personal, use artwork and/or photos created by family members.
Bathrooms and kitchens cabinets are two areas of a house that potential buyers look at very closely since they are so highly used. These rooms need to be updated or new and must be and look clean and fresh. Painting, updating your vanity, and adding new accessories are easy and inexpensive ways that you can give a new sparkle to your powder room in a weekend.
