Lake Superior, one of the five "Great Lakes," is the world's largest freshwater lake. Lake Superior produces a significant volume of lake effect snow, which extends as far as 30 miles inland from the shoreline. Lake Superior offers abundant recreational activities including boating, sailing, swimming and fishing. The lake is bordered by Ontario, Canada, Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota. - Gooseberry Falls State Park is located approximately 28 miles from Duluth in Two Harbors, Minnesota. Park highlights include views and shoreline along Lake Superior, waterfalls from the Gooseberry River, 20 miles of scenic hiking trails, bike trails, abundant wildlife viewing and a nature store. Winter activities include snowmobiling, cross country skiing, hiking and snowshoeing. Gooseberry Falls has 69 drive-in sites and three pull-through sites. There are three group camping sites which are "tent only." The park has seasonal shower facilities, year-round access to flush toilets, year-round vault toilets and a seasonal dump station. There is no electric hookup. Rates range from $12.00 to $20.00 per night. Water/sewer hookup costs an additional $4.00 per night. The park also offers seasonal and monthly rates.

The park boasts a historic lighthouse and numerous activities including lakeside hiking trails. There are 12 miles of hiking trails, between two and three miles of which are along the lake's shoreline. There are also six miles of mountain bike trails. Winter activities include cross country skiing and snowshoeing. There are 20 "cart-in" campsites available, all located within 2,000 feet of the park's parking lot, including two handicap accessible campsites. There are four backpack sites, two of which are accessible from Lake Superior. Shower facilities are open from May until early October. Year-round flush and vault toilets are available. Rates range from $12.00 to $20.00 per night. Water/sewer hookup costs an additional $4.00 per night. The park also offers seasonal and monthly rates.

The park features picturesque overlooks, "High Falls of the Baptism River" which are 60 feet high, rock climbing, bird watching, 23 miles of hiking trails, mountain bike trails and ATV trails. Winter activities include snowshoeing, snowmobiling, skate-skiing and cross country skiing. Year-round camping facilities are available. The park features 28 drive in campsites on the Baptism River, 22 electric sites, five backpack camping sites along the hiking trail, 13 "cart-in" sites near Lake Superior's shoreline, six "walk-in" sites along the Baptism river and two group camping sites. Year-round shower facilities and flush toilets are available. There is no sanitary dump station in the park; however there is a year-round dump station available in Silver Bay. Rates range from $12.00 to $20.00 per night. Water/sewer hookup costs an additional $4.00 per night. The park also offers seasonal and monthly rates.
