  Western Minnesota is a rural and quiet area of the state. There are thousands of lakes for fishing and boating in the summer. Moorhead/Fargo KOA

• The Moorhead/Fargo KOA is on the North Dakota border and is open from May 1 to Oct. 15. The camp is near Fargo's air museum, antique shops, golf courses and a zoo. The camp has RV sites, tent sites and one- or two-bedroom cabins for rent. The RV sites have full hookups with 30- or 50-amp electrical power and a maximum length of 120 feet. There are pull-through sites available. Each site has free wireless Internet, and some have picnic tables and fire rings. Shaded sites are available. Firewood is available to purchase. The camp has 24-hour laundry facilities, a heated swimming pool and a playground. The recreation room on site has a pool table and video games. Bathhouses with showers are on site. Call for rates, which vary with season and site choice.

Swan Lake Resort

• Swan Lake Resort is a 17-acre campground on the water in Otter Tail County. It is minutes from Fergus Falls, Pebble Lake Golf Course and restaurants. The resort has five two-bedroom cabins along with tent sites and RV sites. The camp has fishing and water sports, along with a marked-off swimming area. The camp provides free canoes and paddleboats. Volleyball, basketball, Frisbee golf and horseshoes equipment are available free of charge. There is a game room with pool tables and ping-pong. Swan Lake Resort has an on-site grocery store that sells fishing licenses. The sites are shaded, and some come with water and electrical hookups. Each site has a picnic table and fire pit. There is a bathhouse with showers and a laundry facility. Rates are $27 nightly for no electricity and $33.50 nightly for hookups. A seventh night is free if you make a six-night reservation.

Country Campground

• Country Campground is in the Detroit Lakes area in western Minnesota. The camp is close to golf courses, City Beach and shopping in Detroit Lakes. There are also several fishing and swimming opportunities in Glawe Lake, right next to the campground. The park provides picnic areas on the water, a dock and paddleboats. There is also a playground and basketball court. The lake's beach has a sand volleyball court. Country Campground has a softball field, horseshoes and croquet on site. The recreational hall has exercise equipment, foosball, ping-pong and card games. The rec hall also has shower facilities. There are 30 camping sites, including pull-throughs for big rigs. Each site has full hookups with 30- or 50-amp power, Wi-Fi, fire pits and a picnic table. Rates are $30 daily for two people. Each additional person over the age of 18 is $5 nightly.
