The laws of the state of Kansas provide the opportunity for citizens to apply for a license to carry concealed firearms. The Personal and Family Protection Act was passed in 2006, and the first licenses were issued in January of 2007. Changes to the law took effect in July of 2010. - To get a concealed carry license in the state of Kansas an application must be filed. Applications can be obtained online at the attorney general's website or the Kansas state site. Paper applications can be acquired at local sheriff's offices.
- There are fees required to apply for a concealed carry license in Kansas. As of July 1,2010 there is a $100 fee that goes to the attorney general and a $32.50 fee payable to the county sheriff.
- In order to get a conceal carry license in the state of Kansas a person needs to complete an approved training program. It's an 8-hour program and applicants need to pay for that separately.
- Although there are some exceptions for active duty military personnel, in order to apply for a concealed carry license in Kansas a person must have been a resident of the state for at least six months.
- Not all residents of Kansas are eligible for conceal carry licenses. Anyone who can't legally own a gun can't get a license. Persons convicted of certain crimes are also excluded.
- Getting a conceal carry license in Kansas is not an immediate process. The time will vary somewhat, but in general it will take between 45 and 90 days to hear back from the state.
