Instructions for Opening a Combination Lock
- 1). Obtain the lock's combination, which is a code that usually contains three double-digit numbers. The combination is typically printed on the packaging or instruction sheet that accompanied your combination lock. Memorize this code and keep it in a safe place. You will need it each time you want to open your lock.
- 2). Turn the dial on the combination lock to the right, or clockwise approximately three times. On your last turn, stop the dial so that the "0" lines up with the arrow at the top of the lock. This action "resets" the combination so that it is ready to accept the combination code. Avoid turning the number wheel counter-clockwise at this point. If you do by accident, repeat three clockwise turns.
- 3). Turn the number wheel to the right (clockwise) until the top arrow aligns with the first number in the combination code. Turn the combination wheel to the left (counter-clockwise), pass the first number of the sequence and stop when the arrow aligns with the second number in the combination code. Turn the number wheel to the right once more until the arrow aligns with the third number of the combination code. Grasp the U-shaped portion of the lock in one hand and pull down on the circular bottom half of the lock with your other hand. This will open the lock.
