    • 1). Flip the main circuit breaker to turn off power to the dishwasher. Shut off the water supply to the dishwasher by turning off the valve beneath the sink. If there is no valve, shut off the main water valve supplying water to the entire house.

    • 2). Remove the service panel from the dishwasher. This is usually located on the bottom and is screwed in to the dishwasher. Unscrew and remove the panel. Some panels hang on hooks and need to be removed from those hooks

    • 3). Look for the dishwasher's inlet valve near the front of the machine. Identify the inlet valve by looking for two water lines and a pair of wires connected to it.

    • 4). Disconnect the water lines. Using an adjustable wrench, remove the fitting from the water-supply tube. Adjustable pliers can be used to squeeze the hose clamp located on the fill hose. Move the clamp up a few inches in order to remove the hose.

    • 5). Place masking tape over the wires. Label each wire correctly so that you can reinstall them in the right order. Remove the wires using needle-nose pliers.

    • 6). Unscrew the screws holding the valve to the dishwasher using a nut driver and socket. There should be four bolts holding the inlet fitting to the valve. Use the nut driver and socket to remove these bolts. Pull the fitting off the valve and you should see the screen underneath.

    • 7). Pry the screw loose using a small screwdriver. Clean the screen using an old toothbrush. The screen may be coated with mineral deposits that the toothbrush will not remove. If this is the case, soak the screen overnight in a bowl of white vinegar. This should dissolve the minerals and then you can clean the screen again with a toothbrush.

    • 8). Replace the screen, reassemble the valve and reinstall. Turn the power and water back on.
