In the heart of the city the imposing ramparts stand, surrounded by a deep moat. The fortifications appeared at the end of the XV century, when the city finally moved to the Moscow principality, which was ruled by Prince Ivan III. The rampart height reached 30 meters, and on top of them were wooden wall with towers. Given the moat encircling it can be said that the fortress was heavily defended. Cathedral of the Transfiguration looks lovely that hidden behind trees. From the city the cupolas with crosses are only visible. On top of fortifications you can make a circular walk that allows you to see the entire city.
Transfiguration Cathedral is the most beautiful temple of city of Belozyorsk. It was built in 1668-1670 years.
On the market square there is another typical Russian city building - a shopping arcade (1840). The most famous building of this kind is a shopping arcade in St. Petersburg. Many provincial centers sought to be similar to the capital, which was a result of the appearance of the little but charming buildings (as opposed to the Petersburg).
Not far from the bridge over the moat, where you can get inside of the rampart, there is an original monument. It is approved that it is dedicated to 1112 anniversary of the city. The history of Belozyorsk has been closely associated with the waterway, and as a symbol for the monument a boat was chosen. What is surprising - the date. Not even 1100 and 1110, namely, 1112 years. It should be noted that the antiquity of the city is a special pride for people who live in it. This is the story of a stone lying next to a rook, a large poster adorning the center of the city. It's no joke it is older almost 300 years than Moscow!
Of particular interest of tourists is the Church of the Assumption (1552). This is the oldest stone structure of the city. It is known that it was erected by architects from Rostov - the city that has a lot of outstanding architectural achievements. The church itself is monumental and hard to look at.
Interesting place in town is the promenade. Along the canal a number of one-story stone building was built in which previously a forge and barracks were housed (built in 1846).
In the center of the city whole blocks of wooden houses preserved. This is probably one of the largest "collections" in Russia. The main enemy of wood construction is the progress as we have already noted, had not touched Belozyorsk. Most of the buildings are ordinary houses of poorer citizens. But there is a large house as well, decorated with carvings belonging to wealthy people, such as the mansion of the merchant Kalinin.
The town also has other interesting objects: a wooden Church of Elijah the Prophet (1690-1696), Church of Our Most Merciful Saviour (1716-1723), Church of St. John the Baptist (1810) and others.
In the winter, many of the buildings in the city are heated by a coal. In the frosty air you may feel a slight odor enveloping the entire city. There are very few machines in the town, life is slow. Belozyorsk is the city of the last century, which you can visit to learn about Russia much more than stay in Moscow.
