    Print Driver

    • The print driver, or the spooler, is the software that converts the information that you are sending from the computer to the printer. When buying a printer, you must make sure that the one you purchase will work with the operating system you have on your computer. The compatible operating systems are posted on the outside of the printer boxes. Sometimes the print spooler fails to work because the print driver is bad. If this is the case, take your computer to a professional to have the faulty spooler removed, as the process is a little different for the various types of printers and computer operating systems.

    Software

    • Sometimes the trouble with the print spooler is the software. Uninstall any printer software from your computer. Use the CD that came with your printer to reinstall the software. Check your computer for software updates on a regular basis. Many times when you start your computer, a notice for different updates will appear. Download any updates that relate with your printer.

    Restarting

    • When glitches come up with your printer, try restarting it. This can eliminate a lot of problems easily and quickly. Before restarting your printer, take out each individual ink cartridge and put it back in as sometimes these can get jarred out of place slightly or may have bits of paper stuck in them after a paper jam. Replace the cartridges and then turn your printer back on. If your printer program is still not responding, restarting your computer will fix many errors.

    Cleaning

    • Give your printer a good cleaning, especially where the ink cartridges are located. Remove the cartridges after unplugging the printer and use a dusting spray to remove dust and lint from paper. Spray out the USB ports with dusting spray if your printer is attached to your computer by cables. USB ports can also have debris in them that prevents a tight connection.
