Nadine saw Bert talking to her best friend Anne and mistakenly thought he was trying to make out with her.
Nadine got very angry and ended her relationship with Bert.
Bert was asking advice from Anne as he was preparing a secret Valentine's date with Nadine He was very hurt to think that Nadine had such a poor opinion of him to accuse him of flirting with her best friend.

So she decided to write him a letter and send him a hand written apology.
She owned up to behaving so badly without any proper reason.

She delivered the letter and then left him alone for a few days to hopefully get over his emotions.
After a week she sent him a short email to say she was thinking of him.
Bert was clearly crazy about Nadine because he was prepared to give her such a wonderful Valentine's present, but he was also greatly upset by her initial behavior.
By apologizing and giving him the time to get his own thoughts clear, Nadine gave him the opportunity to reply to her mail.
He called her that night and Nadine spoke very casually.
Bert invited her for a drink and she agreed to join him.
The night he got the email, he called Nadine.
She tried to keep things light and fun.
Bert appreciated that.
So, he suggested they meet for coffee and Nadine agreed.
She made a real effort to look beautiful and put on the perfume he so much liked and the necklace he had bought her for her last birthday.
Nadine decided that she was only going to talk about positive things.
She talked about their common memories and asked how his parents and younger brother were keeping.
She thought that this would remind Bert of their past that they had shared so closely together.
Bert was pleased at this but he wanted to be sure that what had happened was for the first and the last time.
He didn't want to have to put up with similar situations in the future.
He had to know that if he spoke to other girls in the future, Nadine would not start her dramatics again.
They decide that they would go back to courting each other again and stop taking each other for granted, as they had started to do.
A year further down the line, they were both certain that their break up had saved their relationship.
While Nadine got so cross for no reason in the first place, she went on to show that she had learnt her lesson and could behave with maturity; this enabled them both to move on.
