Nobody gets married, with the expectation that, down the line, their marriage is going to fall apart.
Many couples equate divorce with failure and not only don't want a divorce but don't consider it.
There is considerable statistical evidence to show that if, instead of running to the divorce court when their marriage hits problems, couples who are sit down and resolve their problems end up with a stronger marriage.
So if you are having problems, you would do better to find other solutions like open and honest communication or marriage counseling, rather than thinking of going through the pain and effort of getting divorced When friends and the people you work with hear that you are going though a difficult time with your marriage, they are often great at giving you the advice you never asked for.
Perhaps they see divorce as the fastest way of sorting your problems out when often it just complicates your problems and fixes nothing.
Yes, they may be full of good intentions, but don't forget that it is not their marriage, but yours.
Figure are available to show that eighty percent of couples who have replied to surveys admitting that some time in their marriage they had considered divorce but decided not to go through it, are still happily married sever years afterwards.
Two factors can explain this: the first being that the couples contemplating divorce decided to sort their problems out between themselves.
They learnt to admit that the problems existed and put the time and effort into finding doable solutions that helped them save their marriages.
The second is that when divorce was considered it can change the entire dynamic of a relationship.
For some couples this could be a positive thing or it could be bad point for others.
When a problem comes to light it could be easier to get a divorce, rather than facing up to solving the issue in question.
As these issues grow and become more complicated as well as divisive, the divorce may appeal as it offers the easy way out.
Those who refuse to consider a divorce, have to work hard to solve their problems, to negotiate, find workable solutions and seek agreement.
This is certainly going to mean a lot of hard work, but the rewards of succeeding can be much more considerable.
Marriage is a game where the two of you are perpetually working to make your relationship work.
When both partners agree that divorce is not the answer to their problems, it is often much easier to find valid solutions to the different problems.
In doing this they are likely going to strengthen their marriage.
This is much better than cutting your losses and running by getting a divorce.
If divorce no longer becomes an acceptable option you can work though your problems and so make your marriage work.
Your relationship will improve through better mutual understanding and communication.
When you are able to listen to each other, you will improve your art of compromise for your mutual benefit and you will build a marriage that can take you a long time into the future.
