How to Declare a Criminal Conviction
- 1). Review the laws in your area. Some local governments do not require applicants for public or private sector jobs to declare criminal convictions.
- 2). Determine if your employer wants you to declare your previous criminal conviction. This will be evident on the job application or during an interview. If the application or the interview is in direct conflict with the local laws, mention this to your potential employer and be absolutely sure he has the right to ask you before you provide conviction information.
- 3). Provide specific dates and names of convictions on the application or in an interview. If you fail to declare your previous criminal conviction when asked, you may be fired on the grounds of misrepresentation.
